a better sense of security
Last summer, an AT&T truck sporting a shiny new Digital Life logo drove through Kurt and Carolyn Niosi’s Minneapolis neighborhood at just the right time. Kurt and Carolyn were in the market for a home security system, so they asked their neighbor — AT&T employee Scott Andrus— about Digital Life. They liked what they heard. Now the Digital Life Smart Security and Home Energy Solution they had installed in July 2013 fits this family of four’s busy, on-the-go schedule.
What features made Digital Life a good choice for you?
Kurt: Mostly that we could control it from our smartphones. So our in-laws — who visit us often — can come in while we’re at work. We can disarm the security system and unlock the door for them.
Carolyn: I like the remote access feature the most, and the fact that the system is so user-friendly. You can control so many different things in your house, no matter where you are.
How has the home energy solution worked out for you?
Kurt: We live in Minnesota, so it’s been great. The thermostat is set to warm up the house at certain times. But sometimes I come home early, and it’s nice to be able to adjust the temperature wherever I am. I tell the system to raise the temperature 5 degrees, and by the time I get home, the house feels cozy ... even if it’s 20 below outside.
Carolyn: That feature also came in handy this past summer when we had 90- to 100-degree days.
What Digital Life feature do you rely on most when you’re away from home?
Carolyn: The ability to know who’s coming into your home is so important ... when my mother comes to our house and we’re not there, I can disarm the system and let her in.
Kurt: Digital Life gives you a play-by-play history of when someone comes in, when doors were opened and closed and whether or not they’re locked. So even if I’m away from home, I know if someone’s in the house. And if they’re not, I can make sure the house is secured.
What’s the biggest benefit to having Digital Life?
Kurt: One of the biggest things is that it’s so easy to use. It’s such a simple system, and the app for smartphones and tablets is so simple. I’m a big fan of that.
We also have a dog who wants to go outside first thing in the morning. Our kids get up early. So, on the weekend, we can stay in bed, disarm the alarm remotely and let the kids take the dog out while we sleep in!
Carolyn: I’m thinking ahead to when my son will be coming home alone from school in another year or two. I’ll know when he gets home, without having to tell him, “Call Mom as soon as you get in the door!” That makes it really easy for a parent ... not to mention providing some real peace of mind.
