For a new AT&T device

Before you begin

  • If you have an installment plan, make sure you meet your plan’s eligibility requirements before trading in your smartphone. Learn about trade-in requirements
  • If you choose a 5G phone but aren't on an AT&T Unlimited Your Way plan, switch to an unlimited plan where all plans have 5G access.1 View unlimited plans
  • If you want to transfer your number from another provider, see if it’s eligible to transfer. Wireless numbers take one to five days to transfer. Non-wireless numbers take five to seven days to transfer.
  • If you have Wireless Account Lock turned on, you won’t be able to add a line to your account—you’ll need to turn off the account lock first. Learn how to turn off Wireless Account Lock
