iPhone 16e
This model, the very last of the iPhone 16 lineup, was introduced on February 19, 2025, a few months after the other models debuted. It offers many similar features to the iPhone 16 model yet comes with a more attractive price tag. Nevertheless, both models have some notable differences, such as the introduction of the first Apple-designed proprietary C1 modem in the 16e. But not to worry; we'll give you an in-depth review of all the similarities and differences later in the article (but feel free to jump straight to it if you can't wait).
*The displays have rounded corners. When measured as a rectangle, the screen is 6.12 inches (iPhone 16), 6.69 inches (iPhone 16 Plus), 6.27 inches (iPhone 16 Pro) or 6.86 inches (iPhone Pro Max) diagonally. Actual viewable area is less.
The first iPhone made its debut in 2007, which marked the start of the smartphone era with the iOS software platform. To date, there have been 18 generations of iPhones.
The newest iPhone model thus far is the iPhone 16e, launched on February 19, 2025. Its arrival rounds up the iPhone 16 series after the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max models were introduced back in September 2024. It also brings a new price tier as it's a little more affordable than the flagship iPhone 16 model yet more expensive than the iPhone SE Gen 3.
Apple typically has a spring and fall launch, introducing new models. The models from previous years are then discounted and sold at more affordable prices.

The iPhone 13 was Apple's flagship iPhone for 2021. It's one of the low-cost options alongside the iPhone 14, 15, and 16 models. As a rule of thumb, the flagship models are more affordable than the Pro models but tend to offer more features than the lower-cost models— the iPhone SE and the new iPhone 16e.
The notch vs. the Dynamic Island: The iPhone 13 and 14 have a small notch at the top of the display, while the iPhone 15 and 16 both feature the impressive Dynamic Island (previously introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max), replacing the notch. This elegant cutout changes in size and shape depending on what's being displayed. It houses all the Face ID sensors and accommodates the camera hardware. It also serves as a shape-changing hub for iPhone alerts and allows you to control music playback, track timers, follow sports scores using Live Activities, and more.
Glass front vs. Ceramic Shield: The iPhone 13 and subsequent generations come with a Ceramic Shield front instead of the standard glass previously available. The Ceramic Shield is a special type of protective glass, which Apple claims to be scratch-resistant and has four times the drop protection compared to iPhone models without it. With the launch of iPhone 16, Apple introduced the latest-generation Ceramic Shield material, which Apple claims is two times tougher than any smartphone glass.
Glass back: The iPhone 15 stands out from its predecessors due to its single piece of rear color-infused glass with a matt finish, giving it a cleaner look. the iphone 16 continues this look and feel.
Display: All four models have a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display.1
Performance:The iPhone 15 includes the A16 Bionic processor. Compared to the iPhone 13 and 14, which feature the A15 Bionic chip, the A16 Bionic gives faster everyday performance, improved efficiency, and better graphics and performance while gaming. The iPhone 16 features the A18 processor (yes, Apple jumps forward two chip generations ahead of the A16 Bionic chip in iPhone 15!). The A18 chip is truly a game changer as it powers Apple Intelligence, next-level photo and video features like Camera Control, and supports console-level gaming. All with exceptional power efficiency.
Battery life: The efficient A15 Bionic chip and large battery capacity give the iPhone 13 and 14 improved battery life compared to their predecessors. However, the iPhone 15 battery is larger than the 14, so combined with the extra efficiency of the A16 Bionic chip, you'll likely enjoy longer daily productivity. Battery life gets a true boost with the introduction of the advanced A18 chip in the latest 16-generation model.
Charging: Unlike previous generations, all phones, starting from iPhone 12 require buying a charger separately. Yet, compared to the earlier models that came with Lightning ports, the iPhone 15 is equipped with a USB-C port. And now, so does the newly launched iPhone 16. The MagSafe charger, first introduced with the iPhone 12, is an alternative charging option. Since its debut, MagSafe’s technology has evolved and improved. And now, with the latest iPhone 16, it charges faster than ever (maximum charging speeds of 25W when paired with an iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro and a 30W [or higher] wall charger).2
Camera: Unlike the iPhone 12, the iPhone 13 has a diagonal orientation dual-camera system. This allows for an improved sensor size to capture more light, resulting in better image quality, enhanced image stabilization, and greater depth sensing capabilities. This, in turn, can improve features like portrait mode and augmented reality applications. The iPhone 13 also has new photography features like Photographic Styles and Cinematic mode. When comparing the iPhone 13 and 14 phone models, you'll find both are equipped with a 12 MP sensor for the TrueDepth camera. However, the aperture on the 14 model is more advanced, allowing the iPhone 14 to let in more light. What's more, the iPhone 14 has autofocus to the TrueDepth camera. The iPhone 15 has a significantly improved camera over the 14. This is thanks to the upgraded main lens, now including a new 48-megapixel sensor (four times the megapixels of the iPhone 14's primary lens). This improved sensor allows for sharper images, accurate colors, and better performance at night. You'll also find that you won't lose zooming quality thanks to the sensor's middle 12 megapixels. Yet, true photographic innovation arrived with the launch of iPhone 16. The newest model features a number of advanced capabilities. The Camera Control is a new button for quick access to camera tools (such as zoom and depth of field). The improved Ultra Wide camera with autofocus lets you take exceptionally detailed macro photos and videos. The 48 MP Fusion camera allows for amazing high-resolution images and zoom in with the 2x optical-quality Telephoto. And now, with the latest-generation Photographic Styles, you can express yourself even more. With greater creative flexibility at your fingertips, you can make every photo even more you.
Storage options: While base storage for the iPhone 12 starts at 64GB, the iPhone 13, 14, 15, and 16 all start at 128GB.
SIM support:: All four iPhone models support dual SIM (nano-SIM and eSIM), but iPhone 13, 14, and 15 also come with dual eSIM support, allowing you to switch between two eSIMs. Yet, unlike the previous models, the iPhone 16 now only supports eSIM (the SIM tray remains only with iPhone 16 phones sold outside the U.S.).
Sattellite connectivity: The iPhone 14 introduces the ability to connect to a satellite for the first time. This is especially beneficial if you don't have cell service or Wi-Fi, as it can connect to a satellite so you can send and receive messages and Tapbacks.3 In a severe car crash, iPhone can connect to emergency services when you can't.4
Apple Intelligence: Last but definitely not least, and perhaps the greatest innovative iPhone feature yet, is the debut of Apple Intelligence, supported by iOS 18 and A18 chip. Apple Intelligence functions as your personal intelligence system. It helps you write, express yourself, and get things done effortlessly. With pioneering privacy protections, you can rest assured that your data is inaccessible to anyone except you.5 Read more about Apple Intelligence on the Apple website
To recap the main differences between these four flagship models, we find the iPhone 13 introduced improved rear cameras, longer battery life, the new A15 Bionic chip, eSIM Support, and more. When reviewing the iPhone 14, you'll notice it's very similar to the iPhone 13. However, it has improved overall performance, and the camera is more advanced.
We witness big improvements with the iPhone 15—the camera is much more sophisticated, and overall, it displays faster performance, improved battery life, and more. Another significant change found in the iPhone 15 and the latest iPhone 16 is the integration of the USB-C connector. This is the same connector you'll find on iPads, MacBooks, and a vast majority of third-party devices and accessories. Yet, now that the highly anticipated iPhone 16 has launched, innovation has reached a new level.
The arrival of the A18 chip with the iPhone 16 series is groundbreaking. It maintains battery longevity, powers advanced photo and video features, and supports console-level gaming. Perhaps most impressively, it's the driving force behind Apple Intelligence. One can argue that the iPhone 16 and A18 were built for Apple Intelligence.
If you’re looking for a phone with the best performance yet, advanced AI capabilities, and superior camera abilities, the iPhone 16 is ideal and will surely not disappoint. And now that the iPhone 16 has been introduced, you'll find that the iPhone 14 has dropped in price. So, if you are looking for an inexpensive iPhone with face ID, we recommend the marked-down iPhone 14, as it offers more advanced features than the iPhone 13. However, if you're looking for a phone that retains the Lightning charge yet displays improved performance, you'll want to go with the iPhone 14. On the other hand, if you are not on a tight budget and want to enjoy a device with superb performance, a USB-C charging port, an advanced camera, and a more modern design and feel, the iPhone 15 is your best choice.

Connection and response times vary based on location, site conditions, and other factors. Messages via satellite requires a carrier plan. SMS messaging via satellite is available on supported carriers. SMS message rates may apply. See https://support.apple.com/kb/HT213885 for more information.
4iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro can detect a severe car crash and call for help. Requires a cellular connection or Wi-Fi Calling.
5Apple Intelligence will be available in beta on all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, with Siri and device language set to U.S. English, as an iOS 18 update in fall 2024. Some features and additional languages will be coming over the course of the next year.
The recent arrival of the iPhone 16e shuffles the cards as it's the first of its kind. It's a simpler and cheaper version of the iPhone 16 flagship model, yet its price tag isn't as affordable as the iPhone SE Gen 3. This model will likely appeal to many as it's the cheapest iPhone 16 model in the market, which maintains many of the latest features minus the need to fork out extra bucks for the cosmetic splash found with the flagship model.
The iPhone 16e is sold at AT&T, where everyone can find the best deal for them.
The price tag appeals to you, and you're considering buying the iPhone 16e? Keep reading to learn how it resembles and differs from other models in its series and previous ones.
Let's begin by reviewing its exterior design:
Overall chassis design: The iPhone 16e has an aluminum frame, a Ceramic Shield front, and a glass back. Overall, you may be surprised to find that the iPhone 16e chassis resembles the iPhone 14 but comes with a few twists.
Buttons: The customizable Action Button, first seen on the iPhone 15 Pro, replaces the vibration toggle on the iPhone 16e.
Connectors: The iPhone 16e is equipped with a USB-C port that supports charging and a USB 2 (up to 480Mbps) connection.
Screen size, design, and notch: The iPhone 16e 6.1-inch display has rounded corners, making it sleek and modern.1 Like the iPhone 14, the iPhone 16e features the notch and not the Dynamic Island that comes with the rest of the models in the series.
Colors: The iPhone 16e comes in white and black—a more limited choice of colors compared to the other models in its series.
Now let's review what's under its hood:
Charging: Unfortunately, the device isn't compatible with Apple's magnetic charging specifications. This notable downgrade will surely affect you if you've already invested in MagSafe products. But don't fret; you can still charge it wirelessly using Qi charges.2 The device also supports fast charging, up to 50% charge in 30 minutes3 with 20W adapter or higher (available separately), as long as it's paired with a USB‑C charging cable.
Camera: While visible on the outside, the camera is considered an internal feature. The iPhone 16e camera system differs from the other models in this lineup—instead of two cameras, it has a single camera lens that functions as two. The single lens functions like the primary camera found on the flagship model; both models boast 48 MP fusion lenses. However, the performance of each model differs. The optical image stabilization in the iPhone 16 is more advanced, allowing it quicker stabilization. In addition, while the iPhone 16 utilizes 100% of the pixels to focus the image, the 16e has a hybrid focus system, using only some of the pixels. The one camera missing in the 16e model is the 12 MP ultra-wide lens. This camera, present only in the other models of this lineup, allows the user to take ultra-wide photos. The 16e front 12 MP camera is almost the same as the 16 model, lacking only the extra Portrait mode controls and the advanced Photographic Styles feature, allowing you to customize how your photos look before you shoot.
Cellular modem and battery life: The entire iPhone 16 series brandishes remarkable battery life longevity compared to the previous series, mainly due to the advanced power capabilities of iOS 18. Yet the iPhone 16e battery performance surpasses even the other models in its series. This is possible thanks to the new C1 modem chip introduced with the 16e. The C1, also known as Apple silicon, is Apple's first-ever proprietary modem. The C1 modem replaces the third-party modems from Qualcomm found in the earlier iPhone 16 models, allowing improved 5G connectivity and increased battery performance. iPhone 16e battery life translates into notably better video performance than the flagship model. This includes up to 26 hours of video playback vs. 22 hours, up to 21 hours of streaming video vs. 18 hours, and up to 90 hours of audio playback vs. 80 hours.
Water resistance: The 16e doesn't fall short in this aspect of the other models in this lineup. It, too, is resistant to splashes, water, and dust.4
Storage: Just like the iPhone 16, the 16e comes in three storage sizes: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.

1The iPhone 16e display has rounded corners that follow a beautiful curved design, and these corners are within a standard rectangle. When measured as a standard rectangular shape, the screen is 6.06 inches diagonally (actual viewable area is less).
2Qi wireless chargers sold separately.
3Testing conducted by Apple in January 2025 using preproduction iPhone 16e units and software, and USB‑C Charge Cable with Apple 20W USB‑C Power Adapter (Model A2305). Fast‑charge testing conducted with drained iPhone units. Times measured from the appearance of the Apple logo as the unit started up. Charge time varies with settings and environmental factors; actual results will vary.
4iPhone 16 models are splash, water, and dust resistant and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529 (maximum depth of 6 meters up to 30 minutes). Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions. Resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone; refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage not covered under warranty.
The iPhone Plus refers to a series of larger-sized iPhone models introduced in 2014, with the iPhone 6 Plus. These models offered a larger screen, improved battery life, and additional features compared to the standard-sized models. The Plus series continued until the launch of the iPhone X in 2017, when Apple transitioned to referring to the large-size models with additional features as the "Max" models, as they still do with today's lineup.
The iPhone Pro and Pro Max models often give us an insight into the features and technological advancements that Apple may implement in their upcoming iPhone generations. With each release, Apple usually introduces new features, designs, and improvements, and the Pro models often showcase these innovations first.
Whereas the major difference used to be the telephoto lens included on the two Pro models, these days, the two iPhone Pro devices have several differences from the standard handset.
When comparing the iPhone Pro and Pro Max models, you'll find differences mainly related to size, display, and battery life. These differences also mean that the Pro Max is slightly more expensive than the Pro. Here's a quick comparison of the typical differences between the iPhone Pro and Pro Max models:
The choice between the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max depends on individual preferences and specific needs. Of course, with each generation's particular innovations, you'll find distinct differences between the Pro models.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual preferences and priorities. Both models, available at AT&T, offer an excellent iPhone experience. Still, the iPhone Pro Max provides some extra perks in terms of display size, camera capabilities, and battery life at the expense of a larger build and increased weight—and price.

The third-generation iPhone SE is the most affordable device you can purchase, making it the obvious choice if you are buying your first iPhone or if you don't need some of the advanced features.
The SE model is also ideal for those who prefer a more compact, lightweight phone that fits perfectly in the pocket. It measures 4.7 inches diagonally, making it even smaller than the iPhone mini 5.4-inch display, first introduced in 2020 as a compact version of the flagship model. The mini model was discontinued with the Gen 14 models, making now the SE model the only compact model available.
The iPhone SE Gen 3 maintains several features from previous generations, such as the aerospace-grade aluminum and glass design. It has the same Home button for Touch ID instead of Face ID and the same sleek corners and IP67 rating. It comes with the same 4.7-inch diagonal Retina HD display. The camera has the same compact circular bump and a flash, and the charging port uses the well-trusted Lightning port.
But don't let the old-style frame fool you! You'll find this device has a lot of appeal under its hood, as its components are far more modern than its shell. The iPhone SE Gen 3 is powered by the same A15 Bionic chip as the iPhone 14, and it's 5G compatible. It also has True Tone technology with sensors that automatically adjust its display based on your environmental lighting. A couple of potential drawbacks you might consider are the lack of an OLED display, the camera having only one lens, and the average battery life.
The bottom line is that this phone offers well-established features but comes with additional upgrades, making it a desirable option for those who don't want to break the bank. The iPhone SE is also available at AT&T, and there are great deals waiting for you.
