Access wireless voicemail while abroad

Learn how to check your voicemail messages while traveling outside the United States. You’ll need to know your voicemail password before you go.


Before your trip

Make sure you:

  1. Know your voicemail password so you can access your voicemail box. Forget your password? Learn how to reset it
  2. Confirm your device works when roaming internationally so you can check your voicemail from your AT&T wireless phone.
  3. Stay connected with AT&T International Day Pass for AT&T WirelessSM or the AT&T Prepaid® international travel add-on to avoid roaming charges.
  4. Can access your voicemail from another phone using your voicemail password if you won’t be in a coverage area or your device isn’t working.

FYI: International and domestic roaming data usage may be at 2G speeds.

Check voicemail while traveling

Visual Voicemail

Each message always downloads to your device over cellular data. This means that international data roaming charges apply to messages downloaded to your device while traveling outside the U.S. if you don’t have an international option.

You can also call your voicemail from your own or another phone to access your messages by entering your voicemail password.

Call voicemail from your phone

  1. Press and hold 1 on your AT&T wireless phone.
  2. Enter your 10-digit wireless phone number if you reach the main voicemail system greeting, then press * to stop it.
  3. Add your voicemail password when prompted.
  4. Follow the voice prompts.

Call voicemail from another phone

  1. Turn off your wireless phone if it's with you to avoid roaming charges.
  2. Press +1, then your 10-digit wireless number. The plus sign (+) appears on most phones when you press and hold down the 0.
  3. Stop your voicemail greeting by pressing *.
  4. Enter your 10-digit wireless phone number if you reach the main voicemail system greeting, then press * to stop it.
  5. Add your voicemail password when prompted.
  6. Follow the voice prompts.
