Protect your network
Setting a password for your Wi-Fi home network is a smart, easy way to protect your network from unwanted users. Your AT&T Wi-Fi gateway comes with the security On and set to WPA (Wired Equivalent Privacy) by default. If you have changed the security to OFF, follow these steps to turn it back on.
You may have multiple network names and passwords for each radio being used: 2.4GHz, 2.4GHz Guest, and 5.0GHz. To maximize your Wi-Fi experience, it is recommended that you use the radios as follows:
Note: For optimum performance of your Wi-Fi gateway, we recommend you maintain a single Wi-Fi network name and password for both radios so that you only have one network.

- 2.4GHz – Mobile devices
- 2.4GHz Guest – Mobile devices for visitors that want to connect to your home network. The 2.4GHz radio is turned off by default.
- 5.0GHz – Desktops, Smart TVs and other stationary devices)

Enable Wi-Fi Security
- Go to your gateway settings.
- Select Home Network > Wi-Fi.
- In the Access Code field, enter the Device Access Code located on the side of your gateway.
- Ensure the User ID is On.
- In the Security section, select WPA-PSK from the Security drop-down.
- In the Key entry field(s), enter new Wi-Fi password(s) (Wireless Key).
- For 64-bit encryption, enter a 10-digit password made up of numbers and letters a-f or A-F.
- For 128-bit encryption, enter a 26-digit hexadecimal number made up of numbers and letters a-f or A-F.
- Select Save.
Once you have successfully enabled or updated your Wi-Fi network security, you’ll need to connect all your Wi-Fi devices with the new password information.
