Every light on your Wi-Fi gateway has a meaning. Learn what each light means and how to use them to troubleshoot network problems.



Learn the meaning of your Wi-Fi gateway lights

The following chart explains each status light and what it means.

Status LightStateDescription
PowerSolid GreenThe power is on.
Flashing GreenThe gateway is starting.
OrangeSoftware update is in progress. Do not disconnect power until the update is complete.
RedThe gateway or power supply may be malfunctioning.
EthernetSolid GreenA computer or other device is connected to an Ethernet port.
Flickering GreenThere is activity from devices connected to an Ethernet port. The flickering of the light is synchronized to data traffic.
WirelessSolid GreenA computer or other device is connected to the gateway using a wireless connection.
Flickering GreenThere is activity from devices connected using a wireless connection. The flickering of the light is synchronized to data traffic.
Phone 1 & 2Solid GreenA phone is connected and registered.
Flashing GreenThe associated phone line is active.
BroadbandSolid GreenThe gateway is connected to the provider network.
Flashing GreenThe gateway is trying to connect to the service provider network. The light might flash for a few moments while the gateway connects.
Flashing Green and RedThe gateway has been trying to connect to the service provider network for more than three minutes.
Flashing RedThe gateway cannot connect to service provider network or no DSL signal is detected.
ServiceSolid GreenThe gateway has obtained an IP address from the service provider network. The broadband connection is up and active.
Fast Flashing GreenThe gateway is attempting to obtain an IP address.
Slow Flashing GreenThe service provider network is not responding, the gateway has been configured incorrectly, or there was an authentication failure.
RedInternet service authentication has failed.
