Learn the meaning of your gateway status lights

The following chart explains each status light and what it means.


Status LightStateDescription
PowerOffPower is off or gateway is not getting power.
Solid GreenThe power is on.
Flashing RedPower-On Self-Test (POST) in progress.
Solid RedPOST failed or gateway has malfunctioned.
Local EthernetOffThere is no Ethernet connectivity or the gateway is off.
Solid GreenA computer or device is connected by Ethernet to the gateway.
Flashing GreenThere is activity from devices connected to an Ethernet port. The flickering of the light is synchronized to data traffic.
WirelessOffNo devices are connected wirelessly or the gateway is off.
Solid GreenA computer or other device is connected to the gateway using a wireless connection.
Flashing GreenThere is activity from devices connected using a wireless connection. The flickering of the light is synchronized to data traffic.
Phone 1 and Phone 2 Solid GreenAssociated Voice Over IP (VoIP) line has been registered with a SIP proxy server.
Flashing GreenA telephone is off-hook on the associated VoIP line.
BroadbandOffNo physical signal detected.
Solid GreenBroadband connection established via DSL or Ethernet.
Flashing GreenGateway is attempting to make a broadband connection.
Solid RedGateway cannot make a broadband connection.
Service    OffGateway is not on, is in bridged mode, or the broadband connection is not present.
Flashing GreenThe gateway is attempting to be authenticated.
Solid GreenInternet Protocol (IP) connected.
Flashing RedGateway is attempting IEEE 802.1X authentication or attempting to obtain Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) information.
Solid RedGateway has failed to receive an IP address assignment from the network.
