Get a secure mail key

A security upgrade is coming to AT&T email. If you use Mac Mail for email, you’ll have to update your email settings. Learn more about the security upgrade.

Be sure to create a secure mail key to set up or update your AT&T email in Mac Mail 4.

Set up Apple Mail for AT&T email

Use these steps to set up your email for the first time or on a new computer.
  1. From Mail, select Mail > Preferences.
  2. Choose Accounts and then select the + (plus sign).
  3. Select Add Other Mail Account and then Continue.
  4. Complete Add a Mail Account info:
    • Full name as you want it to appear to others
    • AT&T email address (YourName@att.net)
    • Password – enter your password or secure mail key
  5. Select Create. The account will automatically configure and appear in the Accounts list.
  6. Close the Accounts window to begin using your email account.

Verify or update AT&T email settings

Already have your email set up, but want to update your settings or add your
secure mail key? Here’s what you have to do:
  1. Select Preferences > Account Information.
  2. Choose your mail account.
  3. Select POP3 or IMAP.
  4. Confirm User name.
  5. Enter your password or secure mail key.
  6. Confirm or enter the following settings:
    • Incoming Mail Server - inbound.att.net (POP3) or imap.mail.att.net (IMAP) 
    • Outgoing Mail Server - outbound.att.net (POP3) or smtp.mail.att.net (IMAP) 
  7. In Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit SMTP Server List. 
  8. Confirm:
    • Server Name - outbound.att.net or smtp.mail.att.net
    • Use default ports - 25, 465.
    • Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is selected
  9. Select OK. 
  10. On Advanced tab, confirm:
    • SSL checkbox is selected.
    • Authentication field is set for Password.
