Set up, install, and activate DSL

Before installation, here’s what to know:
  • You can connect to the internet anytime after 2 p.m. on your service activation date. You can find this date on your confirmation letter or packing slip.
  • Have a security system, health alarm, or water meter monitor that uses your phone line? You’ll want to contact your provider to make sure everything still works after connecting the filters.
  • Make sure to have your DSL account number or phone number handy. If you have other services, we may ask for your AT&T email address and password.
  • Your installation kit includes your modem or gateway, filters, and any necessary cables.
  • You can find your Wi-Fi® network name and Wi-Fi password on the side of your gateway or modem.

Connect filters and cables

If you don’t have home phone service, you can start with Step 3.
  1. Install line filters.
    • Use single-port filters on any wall jacks being used except for the wall jack being used by the gateway.
    • Use a dual-port filter on the wall jack used by the gateway.
  2. Connect a phone cable between the phone port on the gateway and the phone or device sharing the dual-port filter.
  3. Connect the green data cable to your wall jack or the DSL/HPNA port on the dual-port filter and the DSL/Broadband port on the gateway.
  4. Connect the yellow Ethernet cable between the gateway's Ethernet port and your computer's Ethernet port.
  5. Connect the black power adapter to the power port on the gateway and plug it into an electrical outlet.
Once your gateway will has power, wait for the Power, Broadband, and Service lights to turn solid green. One of the Ethernet lights should blink green, too. Are the lights green? Now you can activate your service. Heads up: Don’t unplug the power adapter or data cable while the modem powers up because that can damage the gateway.

Activate your service and get connected

Be sure to have the following info handy:
  • Your home phone number and the DSL account number found on your confirmation letter or packing slip
  • AT&T Member ID and password
If you’re a new user, you’ll be asked to set up your security questions and answers.

The online activation process should start automatically. If it doesn’t, follow these steps:
  1. Open a new browser window.
  2. Go to att.net/activate.
  3. Follow the prompts to activate your service.

Connect to Wi-Fi network
Looking for your Wi-Fi network name and password? Check the label on the side of your gateway.
  1. On your computer or device, open the wireless network settings and refresh the network list.
  2. Select your Wi-Fi network name from the list.
  3. Enter your 10-digit Wi-Fi password to connect to your network.

Once connected, the wireless light on your gateway will turn solid green.
