We’re sunsetting the AT&T Messages for Tablet and AT&T Messages Backup & Sync applications by the end of 2024.
When AT&T Messages for Tablet and AT&T Messages Backup & Sync apps go away, you‘ll still have options. You can use Google Messages on your tablet and phone. And your phone also has a default messaging app.
Good to know: When Messages for Tablet and Messages Backup & Sync shut down, you won’t be able to sign in to either service.
When you sign into AT&T Messages for Tablet on June 1, 2024, you’ll get the first notice about the upcoming shutdown.
You can switch to Google Messages now. It’s the default messaging app on Android tablets. Don’t have Google Messages? Get the app on Google Play™.
FYI: If you have an older tablet that hasn’t received updates, you may still be able to sign in to AT&T Messages for Tablet. If so, you’ll get a notification that the app has shut down and to use Google Messages.
When AT&T Messages for Tablet goes away, your messages stored in the cloud will be deleted. Since your tablet messages in the cloud are also saved to your phone, they’ll be accessible on your phone.
About three months before AT&T Messages Backup & Sync goes away, you’ll get monthly text messages about the shutdown. When Messages Backup & Sync is gone, your phone will automatically switch to the default messaging app. You can use this app to send and receive text messages, but the messages will no longer be stored in the cloud or accessible from any other device such as a tablet or a smartwatch. Or, you can also use Google Messages from your phone. Don’t have Google Messages? Get it on Google Play™.
When AT&T Messages Backup & Sync goes away, your messages stored in the cloud will be deleted. They’ll be saved on your phone though, so you can access them there.
When you use either the default messaging app or Google Messages app, you’ll automatically be able to see all your stored messages.
