Lifeline
If you’re in a qualifying household, you may be able to reduce your bill by getting a Lifeline benefit on your wireless phone or home phone service with AT&T.
The main difference between these services is the type of technology used. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband internet connection instead of a regular (analog) phone line. AT&T Phone – Advanced (AP-A) is also a VoIP home phone service that uses the AT&T cellular network and/or a broadband connection. Unlike VoIP and AT&T Phone – Advanced, landline is a traditional home phone service that uses copper wires or fiber optic cables to transmit voice signals.
Yes, AT&T does offer VoIP services. AT&T Phone – Advanced is a digital phone service that uses VoIP technology to deliver home phone service over a cellular connection and/or a broadband connection.
Typically, VoIP services can be cheaper than traditional landline services. AT&T Phone – Advanced VoIP service starts at $45 a month, while landline service from AT&T starts at $51 a month.
A VoIP phone functions similarly to a landline phone but requires an internet connection to work. Some VoIP services offer adapters that allow you to use a traditional landline phone with their service.
