Learn about connecting your U-verse TV receiver to your high or standard-definition TV using an HDMI or component cable.
Connect a receiver using HDMI or component cables
HDTV offers better picture quality than standard-definition. You can connect your receiver to your HDTV using either HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) or component RGB cables.
HDMI is the interface of choice for most new HD audio/visual (A/V) devices. It provides uncompressed digital audio and video with outstanding performance. It also supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), a technology built into consumer electronic equipment that prevents illicit duplication of copyrighted material.
Component RCA provides HD audio and video using color-coordinated cables. You can also use it for standard-definition if your TV doesn’t support HD. Component cables include Pr (red) and Pb (blue) color components, and Y (green) black and white components. When using component cables, you also need a left and right audio connection or an optical audio connection.
Connecting your receiver to your HDTV set When connecting to an HDTV set, set your TV screen resolution to 1080i, 1080p, or 720p. A blue LED on the front of the receiver indicates that an HD resolution is selected. Note: Regardless of how the receiver is connected to the HDTV set (HDMI or component), when the receiver resolution is set to 1080i, 1080p, or 720p, all the other video outputs, such as composite, S-Video, or RF are disabled.
