Getting started
- You can download the update via Firmware Over the Air (FOTA).
- You must connect your device to Wi-Fi to download the update.
- Although there should be no impacts to settings or data, we recommend that you back up your media files to a PC prior to upgrading the software.
Windows Phone 8.1 software update includes:- Cortana – your voice-activated digital assistant
- Customizable Start Screen
- Configure Live Tiles in three different sizes – enables personalization of Start Screen by the user
- Transparent Live Tiles – allows user to set a background image that can be seen through clear Live Tiles
- One Windows – Windows Phone is now unified with the Windows PC and tablet experiences and includes:
- OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive)

Update & verify software
To update the software- Make sure your device is sufficiently charged and connected to Wi-Fi.
- Tap Settings > Phone update > Check for update.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update.
To verify the update- Tap Settings > About > More info.
- The device has the latest software if the OS version and Firmware revision number matches the current update details.
