Prenote info

Wireless charging is supported using Qi-certified chargers. MagSafe Chargers are available for wireless charging for the iPhone 12 Series or later through Apple. Visit How to wirelessly charge your iPhone for more information.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to:

• Charge via a power outlet
• Charge via a computer
• Enable Low Power mode
• View battery usage information

• Use Standby mode while charging your device

Charge via a power outlet

Insert the end of the charging cable into the port at the base of the device, then plug into the power adapter.

Note: You can use the device while charging.

When your device is charging, the Charging icon Charging icon will appear on the iPhone battery indicator. When the device is charged to 100% the full battery battery indicator in the Status bar will appear solid green. When you plug your phone in to charge, a charging notification will briefly appear in the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro and later.

Note: Learn what to do if your device doesn’t charge when you plug it in.

When your iPhone is on, you will see the battery indicator Battery indicator in the right corner of the Status bar. This shows how much battery life is left.

Note: You can view the battery percentage in the Control Center. Swipe down from the upper right corner of the screen to access the Control Center.

Charge via a computer

Insert the end of the charging cable into the port at the base of the device. Insert the other end of the cable into an open USB or USB-C port on the computer.

Note: Make sure your computer is plugged in and powered on when you’re using it to charge your device. If your device is connected to a computer that’s turned off, is in sleep or standby mode, your device's battery may drain.

Enable Low Power mode

If the low power Battery icon is yellow, Low Power Mode is on.

Note: Low Power Mode temporarily reduces background activity until you can fully charge your iPhone. To manually turn Low Power mode on or off, from the home screen select the settings app Settings app > scroll to and select Battery > select the off switch Low Power Mode switch.

If you see this screen, it means your battery is really low. Plug in your device and let it charge for at least 10 minutes before using it. After that, you can use your device while it continues to charge.

Note: If your device has turned off, you might see a black screen for a few minutes even after you plug it in. Let it charge until it turns on, or until it's fully charged.

Use Standby  mode while charging your device

With iOS 18, Standby allows you a new full-screen experience. Turn your iPhone on its side while charging to make it even more useful when you set it down. With Live Activities in full screen, you can stay on top of things happening in real time, like the score of a game or the progress of your food delivery. Siri takes StandBy to the next level with rich visual results that can be viewed from a distance. It’s now even easier to check the weather or set a timer hands-free. Battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings. Use the original charger and battery to maintain optimal battery performance over the life of your device.
