Advanced Photo & Video Features

Learn how to access and use Camera modes, effects, customization, and crop a photo.

To access the Camera app, from the home screen, select the camera Camera app.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to:
 

• Access camera modes
• Customize photo & video settings
• Turn shutter sound on/off
• Crop a photo
• Access filters
• Use Magic erase
• Use Photo Unblur
• Use Night Sight
• Use Tabletop mode

 

Access camera modes

From the Camera app, swipe left or right to access modes such as Long Exposure, Portrait, Night Sight, Panorama, and Photo Sphere.

Note: Long Exposure applies a creative blur to all moving subjects. Portrait captures a picture with a sharp subject against a blurred background. Night Sight allows you to take pictures in the dark. Panorama allows you to create wider photos by stitching together multiple photos. Photo Sphere allows you to create a 360º photo by stitching together multiple photos.

Select the Video mode icon then swipe left or right to access modes such as Pan, Slow Motion, and Time Lapse.

 

Note: Pan slows down your phone's panning movements to achieve stabilized cinematic shots. Slow Motion allows you to capture video recordings at a lower playback speed. Time Lapse allows you to capture video recordings at a faster playback speed.

Customize photo & video settings

From the Camera app, swipe up from the center of the screen or select the Camera settings icon located on the bottom-left corner to access settings. Edit settings as desired. Select More settings to access more settings. 

Note: Settings vary depending on the camera mode.

Turn shutter sound on/off

From the Camera settings screen, select the Camera sounds switch.

Crop a photo

1. From the Camera app, select the Gallery icon. 

Note: Alternately, from the home screen, select the google photos Photos app, then navigate to and select the desired photo.

2. Swipe to the desired photo, then select the Edit icon.

3. Select Crop. Select and drag the crop corners to crop as desired, then select Save copy.

Access filters

While editing a photo, swipe left on the bottom area to Filters. Select the desired filter, then select Save copy to apply.

Note: Google Photos Real Tone is a collection of filters that allow skin tones to be captured more accurately. Try out the Playa, Honey, Isla, Desert, and Clay filter.

Use Magic eraser

1. While editing a photo, swipe left on the bottom area to Tools, then select Magic eraser.

2. Circle or select any area on the image to erase.

3. While editing with the magic eraser tool, select the desired option:

• RESET: Select Reset to revert the image back to its original state.
• UNDO: Select the Undo icon.
• REDO: Select the Redo icon.
 

4. When finished, select Done.

Use Photo Unblur

1. While editing a photo, swipe left on the bottom area to Tools, then select Unblur.

2. Swipe left or right to adjust effect strength as desired, then select Done.

Use Night Sight

From the Camera app, swipe left to Night Sight, then select the Capture icon and hold the camera very still for about 5 seconds.

Use Tabletop mode

Tabletop mode can be used to stabilize your shots without a tripod. To use tabletop mode, fold your Pixel Fold halfway and and adjust orientation so that the front screen of the device sits on your desk. The bottom half of your screen will display all the camera controls while the top half will be the camera's viewfinder. Select the desired options:

• SWITCH CAMERA: Select the Switch camera icon.
• TAKE A PHOTO: Select the Capture icon.
• COLOR TEMPERATURE: To change the color temperature, select and drag the Color temperature slider up or down to the desired color temperature.
• EXPOSURE: To change the exposure, select and drag the Exposure slider up or down to the desired exposure.
• CONTRAST: To change the contrast, select and drag the Contrast slider up or down to the desired contrast.
