Split Screen

Learn how to use Split screen, which allows you to have multiple apps open at the same time.

Use split screen functionality to complete multiple tasks on one screen, take notes while watching a video, or search the web and check your email messages simultaneously.
 

 

Access Split screen

1. To view recent apps, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and continue to hold your finger on the screen.

2. If the most recent app is one of the apps you would like to view in Split screen, select Split.

3. Select the desired app to display on the left side of the screen. 

Note: For this demonstration, the Contacts and Calendar apps were used. If you would like to use Split screen with an app that is not a recently used app, swipe up from the bottom of the screen > select the Apps tray icon > scroll to and select the desired app icon.

Access Split screen via the taskbar

1. To access the taskbar while an app is open, swipe up slightly from the bottom of the screen and continue to hold your finger on the screen.

2. Drag and hold the desired app into the desired screen. You can now have two apps open at once.

Adjust window size

Select and drag the Window divider in the middle of the screen left or right as desired, then release.

Note: To open an app completely, select and drag the divider all the way to the left or right edge of the screen, depending on which app you want to open completely.

Drag media from one app to another

Navigate to the desired media, then select and drag the media into the desired input field.

Exit Split screen

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and continue to hold. Swipe the split screen window up to remove.

Use Picture-in-picture

While using apps such as Google Maps, Google Meet, YouTube or Chrome in full screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen. The app will display as a Picture-in-picture window in the corner of the screen.

Note: You can select and drag the window as desired. Picture-in-picture is enabled by default on select apps. To view which apps can use Picture-in-picture, swipe down from the Notification bar with two fingers > select the settings Settings icon > select Apps > scroll to and select Special app access > select Picture-in-picture > the apps that can use Picture-in-picture will be displayed.
