AT&T Introduces New Starter Kits for Developers
Launches New Starter Kit Version for Amazon Web Services (AWS); Teams with PubNub to Provide LTE Communication to IoT Devices
In August 2016, AT&T* introduced an all-in-one IoT Starter Kit to help developers jumpstart their Internet of Things (IoT) projects. The AT&T IoT Starter Kit, which provides tools and services to quickly prototype new IoT solutions, bundled with an a la carte data plan gave developers a one-stop shop to bring their ideas to life and to market. Now we’re making it even easier to connect any USB-based device with a lighter version of our original Starter Kit.
We’re also introducing a dedicated kit for the AWS IoT service. Both developer kits are produced in collaboration with Avnet.
On top of that, we’re integrating support for PubNub’s Data Stream Network and launching a challenge for developers who build projects with the Starter Kit and PubNub.
Introducing New AT&T IoT Starter Kit Versions
In support of AT&T’s strategic relationship with Amazon, AT&T and Avnet created a dedicated AT&T IoT Starter Kit, powered by AWS. This kit lets developers build their own solutions using AT&T IoT and AWS IoT. It also allows a developer to utilize not only AT&T’s highly secure network but application level security as well.
The kit includes:
- LTE Cat-1 modem
- SIM with 300 MB of prepaid data good for 6 months in the US & Mexico
- Two antennas
- Two USB cables and a USB plug
- · NXP K64F development board
- · A microSD card for storing security credentials and configuration
Additionally, we have created a new AT&T LTE IoT Add-on Kit, which includes all the cellular components of the original AT&T IoT Starter Kit, but eliminates the host controller board, making it ideal for developers working with Raspberry Pi or similar devices – connecting over USB. Our new kit, available today for $59, is a lower cost alternative to the original AT&T IoT Starter Kit, which retails for $99.
The kit includes:
- LTE Cat-1 modem
- SIM with 300 MB of prepaid data good for six months in the US and Mexico
- Two antennas
- Two USB cables and a USB plug
Along with this new lightweight Starter Kit, we are now providing native support within AT&T Flow Designer for PubNub’s Data Stream Network (DSN) and easy-to-use API, which provides low latency and secure 2-way messaging for every device, at massive scale.
Furthermore, PubNub BLOCKS makes the DSN programmable, allowing developers to run application logic on data as it passes across the network, enabling extensive capabilities while removing the need to deploy and scale app servers.
Realtime AT&T IoT Starter Kit Challenge
Developers are key to driving innovation in IoT. To showcase this innovation, we’ve teamed with PubNub and Hackster.io to challenge developers to bring their innovations to life. As part of this collaboration, developers have been participating in the Realtime AT&T IoT Starter Kit Challenge using the AT&T IoT Starter Kit and PubNub’s data stream network.
Two winners from the Challenge will showcase their projects on stage at the AT&T Developer Summit in Las Vegas. Additional Challenge projects will be accepted through February for a chance to win prizes. To encourage developers to continue to push the boundaries and share their advances, we continue to pay developers to contribute tutorials.
