Learn more about cancellations, returns, exchange timelines, and restocking fees

Service Cancellations. You may call us at 800.331.0500 to cancel wireless service. You are responsible for all applicable fees, access charges, taxes, surcharges, and other charges through the end of the bill cycle in which service termination occurs, as well as any applicable Cancellation Fee(see section below). AT&T will refund your Activation Fee, if any, if service is terminated within three days of activation.

Cancellation Fee. Certain discounted device purchases (whether at the time of initial activation or in connection with a subsequent device upgrade) require a service commitment of 1 year or more, and failure to satisfy the applicable service commitment may result in a Cancellation Fee. You may cancel a new Corporate Responsibility User line of service within the first 30 days after the initial activation without incurring a Cancellation Fee (see also section entitled Corporate Equipment (devices and accessories) returns and exchanges below). Otherwise, a Cancellation Fee will apply when you cancel the Corporate Responsibility User line of service prior to completion of the applicable service commitment.

If your business agreement has an Effective Date of February 14, 2024 or after, the Cancellation Fee will be calculated in accordance with the following table unless your agreement expressly specifies otherwise:

For illustrative purposes only:

Under this Cancellation Fee schedule, a smartphone in Category D that costs $700 at full price (undiscounted retail price) and only $550 when purchased with a 2-year service commitment (discounted retail price) would be subject to a Cancellation Fee of $600 minus $20 for each full calendar month completed under the 2-year service commitment:

  • In month 12 of the 2-year service commitment, the Cancellation Fee would be reduced to $380. That is, $600 minus $220 (11 mos. x $20/mo.).
  • In month 18, the Cancellation Fee would be reduced to $260. That is, $600 minus $340 (17 mos. x $20/mo.).

If the same $700 Category D smartphone costs $550 when purchased with a longer 3-year service commitment, then the same Cancellation Fee of $600 minus $20 for each full calendar month completed under the 3-year service commitment would apply:

  • In month 12 of the 3-year service commitment, the Cancellation Fee would be reduced to $380. That is, $600 minus $220 (11 mos. x $20/mo.)
  • In month 18, the Cancellation Fee would be reduced to $260. That is, $600 minus $340 (17 mos. x $20/mo.).
  • In month 24, the Cancellation Fee would be reduced to $140. That is, $600 minus $460 (23 mos. x $20/mo.).

If your legacy business agreement has an Effective Date prior to February 14, 2024, the Cancellation Fee will be calculated as follows unless your agreement expressly specifies a higher Cancellation Fee:

  • For a smartphone: $325 minus $10 for each full month you complete under your service commitment.
  • For a basic phone (also referred to as feature phone), tablet, mobile hotspot device, USB modem or other non-smartphone device: $150 minus $4 for each full calendar month you complete under your service commitment.

For illustrative purposes only:

Under this legacy Cancellation Fee schedule, a smartphone purchased with a 2-year service commitment would be subject to a Cancellation Fee of $325 minus $10 for each full calendar month completed under the 2-year service commitment.

  • In month 12 of the 2-year service commitment, the Cancellation Fee would be reduced to $215. That is, $325 minus $110 (11 mos. x $10/mo.)
  • In month 18, the Cancellation Fee would be reduced to $155. That is, $325 minus $170 (17 mos. x $10/mo.)

Please note that (a) if you purchase a device that is shipped to you, you agree to activate the device within 7 days of the shipment date; and (b) if your device is not activated by you, we may activate the device for you within a month of shipping. In either case, your monthly recurring charges and any applicable service commitment will begin upon activation. Please also note that there is no Cancellation Fee if you purchase your device through an installment plan (see section below) or if you purchase your device at full price.

AT&T Installment Plans or Equipment Installment Plans. If you cancel your AT&T Installment Plan (AIP) or Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) within the 30-day Return Period, then you must return your equipment within the permitted time period. If you do not return your equipment within the permitted time period, then the installment plan balance may be accelerated, and the cost of the equipment (less any down payment) will be charged to your account and becomes due in full. If your return is rejected, your equipment will be returned to you, and you will be charged the remaining balance on your installment plan. If you cancel the AT&T wireless service associated with the equipment on your AIP or EIP any time after the 30-day Return Period, then your installment plan may be in default resulting in acceleration of your installment plan balance, which will be charged to your account and become due. Any refundable down payment may take up to two AT&T bill periods to be processed.

30 Days for Corporate Responsibility Users: You may return or exchange your equipment within 30 days from purchase date (or shipping date if equipment is shipped) (30-day Return Period) for a full refund, less any applicable restocking fees. Equipment purchased from an AT&T branded store, or directly from AT&T online, the internet (att.com) or over the phone with AT&T may be returned or exchanged once at an AT&T branded store or by mail by calling 800.331.0500. A return or exchange by mail must be initiated within the 30-day Return Period. Refunds for returned equipment may be made through the original payment method and may take up to two AT&T bill periods.

Requirements for returning or exchanging equipment. Your equipment must be returned in like-new physical and working condition with all original components in the original packaging and with the receipt/proof of purchase to qualify for a refund or exchange. Equipment with cosmetic blemishes or internal or external damage is not eligible for return or exchange. Missing components must be replaced prior to exchange/return being processed. Please delete all confidential, proprietary, and personal information including applications, messages, documents, and other saved items on the equipment and perform a factory reset before returning your equipment. All security features must be disabled or removed, such as Find My (Apple), Find My Mobile (Samsung), or the equivalent equipment locator service. AT&T is not responsible for any equipment containing confidential, proprietary, or personal information, or for the information or data on the equipment. Returned equipment cannot be provided back to you and your data will not be recoverable once the equipment is returned. See manufacturer’s instructions on how to disable or remove security features, eSIM profiles, and specific instructions on how to erase the data on equipment.

Exchanging equipment. If you exchange a device with a service commitment for a different device with a service commitment, your service commitment will restart from the activation date of the new device, which will be used to calculate any early termination fees you may be obligated to pay (see Service Cancellations and Cancellation Fees sections).

Manufacturer and Restored Equipment Warranty. After the 30-day Return Period, please refer to the warranty information for your equipment (if any). Returns directly to manufacturer are subject to manufacturer warranty policy and fees may apply. New Apple branded equipment is covered by Apple's one-year Limited Warranty. AT&T backs its AT&T Certified Pre-Owned and AT&T Certified Restored devices with a 90-day warranty on devices and accessories. AT&T Certified Restored Apple branded equipment covered under Apple’s original Limited Warranty will have at least 90 days or more remaining under warranty when sold. If equipment is received as a replacement through an AT&T device protection program, the warranty period is one year for devices connected to the AT&T network and 90 days for devices that are not connected to the AT&T network.

Restocking fees (except where prohibited):

  • Device restocking fee: Up to $55 (excludes Hawaii).
  • Apple devices: No restocking fee if device is returned in unopened packaging.
  • Accessory restocking fee: 10% of purchase price for accessories $100 and over (excluding taxes and fees).

Equipment may not be eligible for a return or exchange if one of the following applies:

  • The 30-day Return Period has expired.
  • The equipment does not meet the requirements for return or exchange.

The following equipment is excluded and cannot be returned or exchanged under this policy:

  • Equipment purchased through a non-AT&T branded store or seller; please return the equipment to the point of sale where you purchased the equipment.
  • Equipment received through an AT&T device protection program.
  • Gift cards.
  • Equipment sold as closeout or as-is.
